I finally got my mirage running after putting in a fuel pump and now the car runs like poop. Cylinder 1 and 4 are not getting any fuel. I pulled the clips on them and idle doesnt change or anything but as soon as I unplug either 2 or 3 it dies. I have no clue on why it would do that, anybody have a similar problem or have an idea on what to check for.

Wow i am having the same exact problem too. Does the car feel like it has no power in 4th gear? Like it decelerates when you go uphill? And mine is sucking so much gas its crazy. I am thinking that i need a new set of injectors. Someone please shed some light on this for us.

Check your ecu, the injector drivers, and spark drivers, are among the first to go when the ecu dies. also you can have bad injectors.

I've had an ECU go bad by not sending the proper voltage to cylinder 3, check your voltage to the cylinders not getting fuel to see if it's the ecu or not. Off the top of my head I think the injectors get sent 3 volts?

They recieve a pulse that may or may not equal 3 volts.
You can swap the injector wires to see if the problem moves. You can also check it with an o-scope, or just replace the ecu(high fail item), then the injectors(never heard of 4g15 injectors failing). If I was at home I would just mail you some 4g15 injectors for your troubleshooting, but I don't get home till early Aug.

So i pulled my spark plugs out today and numbers 1 and 4 were reallly fouled. I mean ive never seen them this bad before. So im thinking that my injectors might be leaking fuel considering im getting around 8 or 10 miles to the gallon right now. And i really dont want to spend $200 on some new injectors.

I would still bet on the ecu.

X2

If the fault is your injectors just pick up a set of 4 on 4g61t marketplace. I would permanently ban anyone who charged over $30 for used 4g15 injectors. I would bet all the parts car, and engine swap people, have a few laying around they're garage, taking up space. Used injectors are usually as good as new, as again.....I have never seen injectors go bad on a 4g15 car, especially 2 at the same time.

no, because there are 2 banks of 4 injector drivers in the ecu.

The 4g15 is fully capable of driving on 2 cyl as I have done this before when my cam broke.

Try fuel injector cleaner. But yea you should have a spare ecu on hand. Is there anyone near you that has a 89-92 4g15 car that you can barrow there ecu (preferred)?

Or a 4g64/63 SOHC (base galant and a 1g expo/colt wagon) N/A? or a 4g37 (1.8 eclipse)SOHC? You can use these ecu's for troubleshooting, but I wouldn't run them daily unless you have the injectors and mafs to match. but it would tell you if the injector drivers are bad on the board without a injector/maf swap.

I don't know if I'm helping or not, but I've seen multiple 2Gs have a two cylinder failure because of a control module failure. I don't know enough about the 4G15, I'll admit that, but this sounds so similar...

So the solution is simpler than I thought. Simply swap the first and fourth spark plug wires on the distributer around. It runs really good now and is actually really quick. :D

So, your wires were attached the wrong way all this time? Since you owned it or during recent tune up?
