On a trip back from west virginia, my 90 1.5 n/a mirage startin knockin like all hell. I was 330 miles away from home and 180 from where we were staying. Rented a 17ft U-haul and a car dolly to get her home. Saved me from a ma$$ive tow bill, but what to do now?

Car just turned 70,000 original miles. She's bone stock, no go-fast goodies. I'm the 3rd adult to own her, and really want the mpg. On a trip to the jersey shore, i got 48mpg!! Over the last year, when she just stopped runnin for me, I put in a new fuel pump ($180), then a new Advanced Auto ecu ($280). Was the ecu, and she ran great. Put in a new clutch, and a new pass side axle ($600), and new tires ($300). Bought the car for a steal at $500.

So, my question is this: Put a yard motor in it? Get the motor in it rebuilt? Get a rebuilt motor? Or sell it? Since I'm a newbie, i can't sell it here, although i wish i could. I know you guys love project cars, and a turbo swap would be great for this car, I just want the mpg, not power.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It doesn't sound like you work on your own vehicles, from the prices you paid for stuff getting done. There are a couple members on the For Sale section that are selling their 1.5 motors. I love my colt's gas mileage, so I would be looking to replace the little engine myself. But if you aren't going to do the work yourself, then someone else is going to charge you BIG BUCKS to do it, and in that case, you might as well buy yourself another Colt.
