Post subject: | New Prob: Stalling; Clicking... |
![]() New problem as of yesterday... After starting, will stall sometimes with clicking beforehand. Will start right back up (sometimes with clicking) then stall again. Battery icon will be on (but I think this is on when key is in ignition position w/o engine on?). After the first few times this happened, I put in new positive and negative battery connectors (the stock were cracked/crumbling) and secured the battery against any movement. Still happening... any advice would be fantastic as this is the daily driver. Thx much, #89 |

Ecu would be my guess, the clicking would be the mpi relay turning on/off as the ecu dies and it loses signal. |

Thanks Mech...Yeah - searching the boards info (ECU* worked) seems an ECUish problem... I'll be swapping in a 'spare' (wish me luck [-o< ) from a box of "back-up parts" that came with car. Photos of ECUs w/ #s below. What's with the upright; memory looking 'chip'? Also, the brackets although close, are different and off by a few good millimeters? Anyone know what the heck ECUs these are- I'm still trying to find Flying Eagles ECU list...? ![]() ![]() Thx, #89 |

Aaah... good old Google! ![]() According to that site the ECU that was in the car was a Colt application. Now here's the good part - the 'spare' the guy included with the car is from a - 1990 Dodge D150 Pickup Truck (3.9-liter V6)?! ![]() Well here's the thing... to keep things moving along between posting... I swapped the board into the original housing... reinstalled it... turned key... it starts/runs!? ![]() (Clicking/dying problem is gone also). The the colt 1.5 million dollar question now is - what problems or harm can this wreak? ![]() Big temptation though. Can't- stop - myself - from - test - driving - it... ![]() Will report back with damages/findings! Updates soon, #89 |

The D50, aka the mitsu mighty max, also came with a 4g63t variant, which if you have a 4g61t, will work (but need some mods like injectors and maf). If you scroll all the way down, you'll find the information archives (the one I reference in the "READ THIS FIRST" post at the top of this forum). When checking through the "Engine/drivetrain" subforum, you'll find the ecu # list post. ![]() http://www.4g61t.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9992 |

So took a quick trip (a few miles, through all 4 gears) using a MightyMax/1990 Dodge D150 Pickup Truck (Edit: 2.4L? {Orig referenced as 6 cyl}) ECU in the Colt 1.5 (!)... (Non scientific/'seat of pants' test): ~About 1-2 seconds of low idle (then to regular) on start up. ~No Check Engine Light. ~Smooth acceleration. ~Filter box area seems slightly 'louder' on throttle now? ~Have not traveled far enough to guage fuel consumption. Still concerned on potential harm/havoc running this setup? Any insight? Possible electrical issues? Would the different sensor settings (e.g. knock sensor) affect engine longevity? Much Obliged, #89 |

It's more likely that you're running the 4 cylinder mighty max ecu or that the ecu isn't labeled correctly/the numbers on it weren't read right. I don't think the v6 ecu would run at all on a 4 cylinder car. |

Mechacode; All, Those are my actual pics above and the data is from that site provided by slowdsm. Even if it is (most likely) the 4 cylinder (which I think was a 2.4L?) I'm impressed at how well it runs (actually better - although my 1.5 ECU may have been last leg since I got car). Quote: So took a quick trip (a few miles, through all 4 gears) using a
Update - Findings after driving 241 more miles:MightyMax/1990 Dodge D150 Pickup Truck (3.9-liter V6) ECU in the Colt 1.5 (!)... All of the above plus, ~1-2 seconds of low idle on start gone - now = initial 40-50 sec of slight (500 to 800 RPMs?) up down idle. ~241 heavy foot miles divided by exactly 7 gallon fill up on d@mn near empty = ~34.4 MPG - so slight decrease on MPGs... (was getting 36 and change w/ stock ECU - with tune-up 'in progress'). If anyone has a base model A/F spec - could probably test mine to compare? Looks like this sucker is staying in for a bit (at least until repair/replace 1.5 ECU). Banzai, #89 |

By the way do the spring clip retainers bend easily? For such a simple task, was a real pain in the balls putting it back in ![]() Thx, #89 |
