I have to change or at least try to change my head gasket and was wondering how hard, or what the process is to changing the valve seals while im in there, the kit came with them. thanks

Do you have a valve compressor tool to work with? You need one that is DOHC compatible due to the largeness of the head we have to work with. A simple model may work on the 4g15, but find one that will work with DOHC setups and you should be set. Replacement is easy enough but be sure to install the new units with the valve in place, install the protective sleeve over the valve top, then slide the seal on, and retract the valve lower in its bore so you can fit a deep socket over the seal and valve and tap it into place. I think that is the order to do it, but just make sure you don't rip the valve seal when installing the valve because it will make the seal useless and that valve will get lots of oil down onto its stem. If your car doesn't burn oil, which is rare for older 4g15s, then consider just doing the head gasket if you don't want to get too involved and are short on time. Basically if you are removing the valves, you may as well put them to the wire wheel brush to clean them up and remove the carbon and soot build up. Food for thought.

If you have a small harbor freight press or any press it works wonders on compressing valve springs and removing retainers. I also have a clamp type spring compressor with a plastic extension piece and I need three arms to use it and hold the head.

I dont have a press. but I do have a vice and a hammer.

Have a shop do it for you, $50 or so and it'll save you a day's worth of frustration.

Man im working on my head right now. I took a deep 5/8 socket put it on top of the springs and take a hammer and hit the top of it. "MAKE SURE YOU DONT LOSE THE CLIPS" There are two of them on each valve. They will try t come out the top of the socket. Anyways it work for me.. Just throwing it out there.
