I've got an '86 Mitsubishi Mirage Turbo. This car is very rare here in Ireland and I haven't seen many other's anywhere. I need to get a new gear linkage for it but I can't find one for the specific car I have.
I read on other topic's that the linkage from newer colt/mirage's will still work on these, Is this true?
Can I just get a linkage from a 4gen mirage (96-03) and put it onto the car?

Thanks

When you say gear linkage do you mean the shifter cables or the shifter arms on the tranny?
Or the shifter itself?

To be honest, I haven't checked exactly what the problem is yet, I'm presuming it is the actual linkage which goes from the shifter to the tranny, but as I haven't had much time this week to check for sure, I was just hoping it was a common problem which could be diagnosed easily. When I'm driving and change from 4th to 5th gear it's fine but then when I'm slowing down and want to change back to 4th sometimes it's hard to tell which is 4th and which is 2nd gear??? It's very easy to put it into the wrong gear as there is so much movement in the shifter.
Does this help??

Yes, the shifters on the 2g cars are very sloppy. I know what you mean - it was always a guess when downshifting.

Try a shifter base from a 4gen CSM (93-96? in North America). It will give you shorter throws and a more precise feel, although it makes it more clunky and has a longer shifter arm.

You could also take off your center console and inspect the shifter and its operation. (my console has been in the garage since spring  )
