Post subject:  Just picked up a another 89 turbo

Hey all, so about 4 years ago my wife bought me a red 89 turbo for Christmas, its incredibly clean, with a 100k or so on it. Sitting at 125 now. Still has the original 4g61 with a 16g, intake, exhaust, and maf translator. I put in a spec clutch and l.w. flywheel, and a half rad, great little daily driver with some punch, oh it was originally owned by Timmy likes boost, then Kaazeman, then me Woundup7

Fast forward, on the hunt for another turbo hatch, I reach out to a local dsm/csm guy in Seattle, he has an original 89 that was built swapped by Kaazeman around the same time as my red one. Exact same build except Darrin put a VR4 63 in this one. Unfortunately this one is sitting outside in an alley in Seattle rotting away. It runs but need some tlc on the motor ( few leaks and t belt), and the interior is hammered. Its sitting at 195k, and he has put on around 70k in the ten years since the swap. So we make the deal and I tow it home on my trailer.

The back story on the car is that Jeff the p.o. bought it from a young guy in New Jersey, then took it to Hawaii for a few years, before finally settling in Seattle.

I put it the shop for 3 months to dry out, and my wife starts tearing into it, 3 months later the spare tire well has 2 inches of water and the interior is all moldy. Im pretty much committed to a gut and awd swap this fall. its kinda sad, but the black one is hammered, shifter feels like mush, carpet is moldy and has heel hole, seat belts are broke and cycling randomly, rust on the roof, etc. So to that end I just bought a 91 eagle talon awd 5 speed non runner for all the conversion bits.

The end goal is to keep the running vr4 motor and e316g that is in, add to 272 cams and ecm link. Along with all the awd running gear. I plan on keeping the dash, door cards, and putting my omp champ race seats in there. My wife works at DirtFish rally school and plan on having the cage builder put a rally spec cage in there this winter.

Anyways the vins and titles are both in my name

Great write-up and dual-intro to the two new stable mates!

I'll be sure to email myself those Vin's so i can decode them and add them to the Vin Registry.

I can now put a name to a screen handle as I have seen many names pop up, in offsite convo's.

Black Vin added, other car is already listed. Interesting fact: This is the only car built out of order serial number wise, from all others listed. It is essentially a block 1 of July build, with all June build date cars surrounding it. Very strange, but that is how it hits in ASA. July cars start with 030302 as the serial number, moving forward and June ends with 030207. I don't have all cars between those numbers but someday, maybe I can get more info from head office or Mitsu Corporate like some other sites have done with Domestic VIN's and build sheet information databases. Dreams my friends, dreams!

"The car that changed the World!" Or something to that effect?

It would be interesting to have some in house manufacturer perspective on many things, including outside perspective from journalists whether they were around at the time or not, but can get some real perspective from the company and people that bought these cars. Would be a real labor of love to decode Mitsubishi from the early eighties until the mid nineties.

I had another Red 89 turbo, but it was just a roller shell, I traded for a Honda street bike two years ago. Do you want to see if I can dig up the vin.?

That would be great if another VIN popped up on radar.

Was the shell, a Dodge/Plymouth or Mirage? Mirage I can decompile minus color, Dodge and Plymouth require more info from the owners/reporters.

It was a 89 Mirage, red.
Where do I find the registry on the forum?
Thanks
