Hello to all those who dare to be different ! I've owned csms for years now and finally decided to join. I got my start on Csms when I saw a photo of a Mirage racing at Road America on the wall at my local import yard. The car was snuck into a production class with a 2.0T swap and would run down mustang GTs on the straightaways ! That was Waaay back in 1997. At the time I was a teenager working at a local dealership washing cars, and when a co-worker who had an 88 colt popped his hood one day, I noticed his engine had the same valve cover as my little 91 Hyundai Scoupe just without my EFI. I had a G4DJ Hyundai 1.5 Sohc which hyundai sourced from Mitsubishi. basically a Fuel injected version of the old 4g15 with an 8 valve head. I started to draw the conclusion that if a CSM with a stock 1.5 could fit a 1.6t, and therefore a 2.0T then my Scoupe should be able to fit a 2.0T also !!!
It took me years from that point to learn enough to actually succeed in the swap, and still I remember how disappointed I was when the 2.0t swap became common knowledge with the release of the SCC article about the Black 2.0t road race did or the later articles with their white swapped time attack car. I've only ever seen a total of 5 original 1.6T in person and I currently own 3 of the 5 I've seen ! 2 mirages, one black, one silver, and a red Colt GT with the rare steelies with trim rings. I swapped one of the 1.6t into one of my Scoupes since the car ( the silver one ) was wrapped around a phone pole when the original owner hit full boost with a TD05 mid corner. So I have that one as a body part car for the other 2, and quite possibly the only 1.6T Hyundai in the world ! My Scoupes have now been powered by the G4DJ, 4G15, G4EK, G4EK-Turbo, Beta 2.0, 4G61T, 4G63T, and I'm currently building a 4G63T widebodied Scoupe with the AWD components from a 1G DSM since both my FWD 4g6X powered cars are severely traction limited and I can't fit as much tire as even a CSM can ! Well thats my background, not exactly conventional for Csms but I've driven a Mitsu 1.5s for almost 2 decades now, so I've been right there with you guys this whole time !

I've always really liked the scoupes, to me they look better than the older excels and elantras. I'm with Tony, post up some pics!

That's an intense love of the Scoupe and Mitsu relatives you have there!

Great to hear that so many frames are still around, being original turbo cars at that.

If you know about us here and all the mods we do, you may know about the Registry that's in place and always looking for additions.

Check it out at the top of the General Chat section.

Looking forward to some photos of your rides in all their glorious forms.

Also, to get three more VINs added to the Registry at one time, would be a lot like a box of Christmas presents.

. I've lurked forums over the years but generally I'm too greasy to spend much time online, I remember a time when you weren't cool if you knew computers, now the shoes on the other foot ! Nowadays you aren't cool if there isn't photographic evidence of your entire life online for the world to see
The reason I've not posted on the forum is I'm basically computer illiterate and worse yet, have a dial up connection...chariot on the highway speeds here !! so pics are beyond my skills and connection from what I know, none of my CSM's are anything special to look at, and most my scoupes only make me smile when I pop the hood or stomp the gas. I have one nice "flashy" car but frankly I prefer to motor around in the obscurity of flat black and no giant wheels most the time, so most my cars aren't much to look at but sometimes that makes it all the more gratifying schooling that brand new shiny car in the next lane with my spray bombed 20 year old hyundai !

surely you jest, a polaroid ? shall I insert it into the floppy disc slot ?? I do have a digital camera ( currently broken ) and am able to get my pics onto my PC but it takes 10-15 mins to upload a single pic from there into my e-mail, and is just not worth the effort if you ask me.

Dialup?! You must live way out in the boonies. If you have a phone made in the past 10 years, you could snap a pic and message it to someone.

First off let me say I appreciate the interest in my cars, but I will not be sharing pics and heres why : (Warning, Rant against current social norms ensues )

Out in the boonies ? You got it.
No high speed internet cables nearby, only option other than dial up is Dish and that sucks under such a broad range of conditions I also refuse to pay for that service, I miss the old days of analog signals, that didn't go all pixely every time theres a cloud on the horizon or a car drives by with their GPS on because pretty much everyone is useless now without all their electronics when it comes to real world skills like finding your way home at the end of the day.

As a person with skills, who fixes things ( In a big concrete and steel box w/o cell phone reception inside even when I can see a tower put up 2 miles away to improve reception in our area )the worst thing to me is paying $ for terrible reception/service in our building all so someone can hassle/distract/ or interrupt me 24/7 when their car breaks. swap an engine or trans under book time with a cell phone ringing/vibrating or worse yet playing 15 seconds of some annoying song no one likes and you'll know what I mean. No camera phone here, its a touch-tone LANDLINE phone attached via a coiled cord to the wall ! Have someone text you a description, or snap a cell phone pic of one so you know what I have.
Yeah I know everything is electronic nowadays, I just hope someday theres a massive EMP and all these crutches people use to supplement real world skills are fried useless, and people would actually have to socially interact in a more in depth way then texting brief messages and pictures, living vicariously through a virtual "life" online all while staring at the palm of their own hand, ignoring the REAL people all around them.
If I sound defensive its because I have to explain all this almost daily to people who are perturbed I'm not at their beckon call, that they can't find me on Face book, or send me stupid abbreviated messages barely decipherable by anyone but a code breaking linguistics specialist or a pre teen girl, I work with my hands and dammit its hard as hell to touch a 4mm square button with work toughened hands and if you cant talk as fast as you can type with your 2 thumbs and think its more efficient I just plain feel bad for you., a corded phone and dial up give me a legitimate reason to not drop whatever I'm doing, lose momentum, wash my hands, and switch gears to do what somebody else needs.
Keep relying on all the tech to do everything for you, cars park themselves now and sooner or later it will be deemed unsafe to let people drive their own cars due to a few helpless humans unable to do something as basic a drive an anolag controlled car ( you see throttle cables much anymore ? ) When the day of driving your own car goes by the wayside and everyone hops into a "magic go box" to get around it'll be thanks to our increasing reliance on technology. Ironically I joined to get help fixing my ECU, so I'm here to learn , I own CSMs, I have Dial up, no camera phone, and a broken digital camera so no, I will not be posting pics, sorry to all you voyeurs out there. If I really wanted to could I ? Yes. Is it worth the effort to me ? No. You'll just have to use your imaginations ( and maybe your palms ! ) So yeah, I hate tech but like CSMs, they are 25 year old technology after all ! My buddy has an Evo X and it'll smoke all of my cars, but it does not have the same feeling or frankly as much fun factor through a round about as something WITHOUT a computer correcting your every input.

That is definitely a rant.

"No camera phone here, its a touch-tone LANDLINE phone attached via a coiled cord to the wall ! Have someone text you a description, or snap a cell phone pic of one so you know what I have."

I think you'll find that most people here are old enough to remember landlines. I even remember using my great grandmas rotary phone as a kid.

Technology is just another tool for me and I can't see myself getting far without using my tools.

mecha, Funny, we just got rid of our old rotary (phone) here about 15 yrs back, coulda beat someone down joe pesci style with that thing ! I know tech is just another tool in the box, but its one that takes away from my time more often than saving it so far, partly due to the location and building I'm in, locally No One has ever gotten more than 2 bars of signal regardless of provider, and even then only sporadically in our shop. Its certainly not average and there are a lot of people unwilling to accept there a places not wired to the gills nowadays. I just wanted to make it clear as to why no pics and yeah, I ranted just a bit ! Stupid technology. There I'm done now !!! Does anybody realize the irony of all this taking place online via computer or is it just me ? Sorry its just funny.

Yep thats all i could think of as i was reading ha ha. The whole argument on technology has two sides and can get really long . For example i hate being bugged on my cell and texted by people who want to buy my car but cant call but i love the shit out of ebay, craigslist, megasquirt, online information, fuel injection for that matter, the phone the lightbulb, the automobile, etc, etc. So i can certainly accept no pics of your cool retro rides.
