Hey Guys

My name is Chris I live just south of Seattle in Federal Way Wa. My wife and I have been autocrossing an Evo 9 in STU for the last three years, " she was the 2012 STU Ladies SCCA National champion, and I have won 2 regional jackets in the last three season. Anyway we sold the Evo about two weeks ago, as we are moving on to autocrossing a base mini cooper in STF for the next few season. Long story short one of my friends I met through autocross is Darrin B, I got to know him and his wife over the past few years. They are great people and huge Mitsu fans, in fact at one of his first autocross he ask me to drive the "angry bird", I kinda of knew what it was but not totally.

Fast forward a year and half, he post on face book that its for sale and I tell me wife she should buy it as a d.d. A few weeks later I'm over at Darrin's and we are wrenching on my Evo to take it back to stock to sell it. He tells me to go drive the mirage and check it out, of course we go flog on it and its a hoot. All the while he is telling me a guy in Portland put money down on it and that it is most likely sold. :( I'm like well I have the money if he backs out, but its likely sold. So I totally forget about the angry bird, not know the whole time my kick ass wife was working a deal behind the scenes to buy the car. That's why Darrin had me test drive it, to tell her if I really liked it.

Fast forward again to December 24th, I have been working swing shifts for work, so I wake up around 9 am that morning just having my first cup of coffee and I hear an rumbling exhaust look out the window and see a red car, so I figure its one of the neighbor kids stopping by to show me his new car. I open the door and its my wife, and Im like where's your Mini? and she say " surprise I bought you the angry bird for Christmas" and of course my jaw drops. So yea that's how I got my first 1989 Mirage turbo hatch. I went a whole two weeks without a turbo car, not counting the cummins.

It has just a tick over a 100k and the original 4g61t, its red and pretty much bone stock inside, the motor has been modied a bit, and it boogies. I need to talk with Darrin to get the specs, but I think an evo 3 turbo and maf translator and fmic for sure. Its definitely a blast to boost through town. Looking at the registry it is car #64.

Thanks

Welcome, good to see you made it here! I was the one that suggested you check out the site on your NWevo post. I met Darrin at an autocross event in Bellingham earlier this year, we got to talking and found out we both had a original turbo model, he showed me pics on his phone and was talking about selling it, glad to see you picked it up. And yes IIRC it has an Evo3 16g. I just moved from Federal Way and am now in Tacoma, looking forward to checking out the car sometime.

Hey Corey

Yup thanks for the info, I live close to Decatur high school in Federal Way. Looking at h.p. numbers Im guessing you have a 2.0 liter swap? If there are any get togethers let me know, I would love to meet some of the local guys and gals.

Factorycoltgt. Yes we autocross in Packwood all the time, and this last season I also ran with the Oregon region SCCA who are some really great and friendly folks. They race out at PIR and do 4 events in Packwood as well. I can send any info you might want about autocrossing just let me know.

Chris

Yep 2.0. We had a nice end of year DSM/Evo meet last night, Debow was there too. Keep an eye on the FB pages for the latest meet and greets. Adam and I had some fun on the freeway after the meet

I knew that engine bay, the moment I saw it!!!

I bet you bought it from Kasamasan1. Great intro story!

That car was on the rotisserie and was likely spared no details in the overhaul. 8)

Definitely Kasamasan's old car, formerly owned by timmylikesboost. This thing originally came from So-Cal. Super minty-fresh CSM right there!

So clean. You sir have an amazing wife, you better not ever let her go! I pray every single day that some of my mechanical knowledge and my thirst for horsepower would rub off on my wife but I've been with her for the past 13 years and I don't think that it would ever happen. Anyway, you've got yourself an extremely clean and sexy machine there, please take care of it. From reading your thread I can tell that you're an educated man and you know your cars so I'm sure you will. Welcome to the forum and if you ever have any questions or need any help, just post.
