92 2.4 5 spd. with a good clutch will this trans hold up to a stockish 1.6 turbo motor? with 16 psi on a 16g.. dont really want to source a new trans since ill be selling it as soon as its swapped.

Sonatas came with a KM210 in their SOHC package from at least 92-95.
Stock turbo 4g61t's came with a KM210.
I think any motor mated to a 2.4 should have had a trans almost certainly capable of handling the low torque output of the 1.6 TC setup.
If you post the transmission code we could correlate exactly what it is and could handle.
TRE has a torque capacity page buried in their website showing the rated torque capacity of all transmissions from this era.

its just a stock 5 spd trans from a 92 2.4 4 door fwd expo. still has all the stock airbox and everything so kinda hard to get in there to find the code lol..

but like u said if the stock 2.4 is rated at 160 hp.. and my 1.6 made a lousy 173 hp (with a auto trans).. im thinking maybe 200 to 230 max hp mated to a manual (and tuned lol).. so the stock trans should hold up fine..

was just looking for confirmation.

thanks Tim.

I'll let you in on a big secret. The manual trans's they put in the vans are f5m33s (turbo transmissions) so boost away

nice I seen that one on cl also and was thinking about it..but that dent was a issue for me only because I wasnt home (dealing with parent issues) so didnt have any tools or access to parts. (which is why I havent been on this forum for over a year) but im back now and ready to rock lol..

so how do u like it? I want/wanted a auto awd one. but after seeing most have trans issues and my 4 door being a 5 speed im kinda leaning towards a manual one now..

new question.. my 92 awd vista auto trans (the w4a32).. will it handle up to 500 hp? if not what trans should I use? 1g would be my ideal one but like micahs build there is no mounting on the back of a 1g trans and these vans use the 2g style mount..(unless I custom a bracket).. just dont really want to use a 2g trans... any input? thanks

I'll give you a quick answer cuz I do t have much time now.
Saldy you can't use a 2g trans. They use a lockup converter and it shifts the trans over a 1/2 Would cause all kinds of axle issues. Only real choice an rvr trans from the jdm turbo version of your wagon. Bitch is they are kinda rare. I've always thought you could use a 1g Tran but you be missing a mount. I can talk more about it later

Steve if you look through my link above there are some pics of the van rear mount you might like. (saw you asked on facebook) Its the stock auto box the rvr would be the same on the rear.

damn dude thanks.. I guess the first time I looked all the pics must not have loaded.. cause I read all the way down and those last 4 or 5 wasnt there... im thinking if I cant source a rvr trans ill just have my friend weld some pieces on the top and bottom of the trans and make a custom mount to imitate the factory one.. thanks again for the pics.

You could always use a rear mount on the back of the engine block and fab a custom x-member. Probably easier and cheaper than an rvr trans.

Post subject:  Re: trans question.

yeah i think thats what im gonna do... first thought was to extend the factory metal mount and have someone weld tabs onto the trans case.. but that would be expensive also... next question for u is.. i bought some rear expo hubs for the rear disk kit I got from u for the 94 mirage... will those hubs fit on my awd van (the hubs and van are both 92).. but van has abs. people tell me to delete abs but when I asked how i got no reply lol..

If you have abs you already have rear discs on your wagon. If you bought hubs, I believe you probably bought fwd rear hubs which are way different. Unless you're talking about the 92 mirage hubs which again, won't work on the awd wagon.
