on my 2.4 I replaced the t-stat when I bought the van. needle never got up to half way..once I got it here I replaced the sensor on top of the t-stat housing.. now it heats way up and fan rarely comes in.. I dont have the old one anymore to put back in but was wondering if that was the actual one that runs the fan or is it the small single wire one right next to it on the bottom part of the housing? dont want to hard wire the fan on if its just the sensor. nvm i pulled the t-stat out and it was popped.. less than 600 miles.. so they replaced it and gave me a new gasket free... now it opens and the fan comes on again. Steve |

a autozone failsafe one.. I think it was my fault.. I didnt have it positioned right when I put it in.. (hard to explain without seeing it).. when u drop one in and rotate it some it hits the sides ( u cant rotate it 360)... it was hitting one side when I pulled it out.. new one I made sure was centered so will see how it goes this time around lol. on a side note..anyone know how to remove the P/S corner light on these things..(bulb is burnt out) mine has the battery and some sort of plastic piece pop riveted in there.. on my 3g colt the piece has a spring u pull and it comes out.. these dont have that..and cant find anything on google on how to. I'd consider buying the best thermostat one could - ie. OEM because for a few dollars more, you "should" be getting better reliability, guaranteed bleed jiggle valve (if applicable), and identical shape, bore for fluid travel etc. Wish I could tell you more about your corner light but I've only seen one of those vans in person. |

yeah there is a 8mm bolt from inside the engine compartment to get to those corner lights off. hard to see as well then it should pop off |

I use either Stant, Gates or Beck Arnley, I don't trust store brand stuff. |

Beck Arnley is like WorldPac, OEM parts supplier. Two good choices before going aftermarket. Gates is an OEM supplier also. I can't speak for Stant other than I have used lots of them when there was no OEM alternative given to me by a service advisor. They have two or maybe three options that show up in their catalogues when available; be careful of lower temp than OEM, non-jiggle valve in a jiggle valve application and their "entry" level thermostats that are non-failsafe style and just look cheap and sometimes have a completely different shape to their operational equipment portion. Cheap thermostats that operate in a different range can cycle the system far more than it should be and can lead to a radiator suffering early retirement at the weld/seams in extreme cases. I was just installing a radiator the other day and the documentation with it, in picture form showed why not to use cheap stuff or simply replace it as a matter of course with the radiator. Some things to digest. Anyone in an extreme high temp environment or even low temp, should consider nothing but the best part going into the flow control for their cooling system! |
