Post subject:  Second Summit AWD Build

As some of you may know that I purchase Riceless90 Red 92 Summit. I also purchased ThomCasey Blue/Black/Silver AWD 2.4L 93 Summit. Well I traded the car to my buddy Sam for labor on my shop. I am purchasing a surprise this week 98 gsx awd drop in setup for 93 Summit. We will be mainly doing a stock dsm build, but I am excited to actually assemble one of these myself as I purchased my first turbo one. I will have pictures as the project moves along. He and I will have to work out the details of when we are going to work on this as we live 3 hours from each other and he works weekend.

I got the motor and trans with bad news. The guy sold it to me with the trans housing extremely damaged and the gear selector tube rtv onto the actual trans. I got another trans from him last night, but after I pulled the pan the rod bearing have slop in them. So most likely I am super screwed on that also. My buddy and I spent most of Saturday cussing and wanting to throw stuff so we hope in the shop talon and did some back yard awd donuts and mess up the year.....well worth the smiles. It also got him excited to get some megan coilovers on the shop talon and replace all the front end suspension to autocross/roadrace it. We did find out the rear trans mount on the 98 auto awd trans is nothing like the 93 auto awd summit trans. We are a little confused what auto turbo trans is the same as the summits. I have an rvr trans from japan in the 92 summit (correct me if I am wrong Thom). So if any of you fellas have some 2g or 1g auto awd trans laying around post a pic the rear mount and case plate and be sure to label the year.

the a/t for the summit is unique to the summit. its a mix of 1g and 2g. its got the 1g torque converter setup which has smaller bell housing and 5psd style axle lengths. and 2g style trans rollstop in front and summit style in rear. the rvr trans is direct drop in for the car in all respects. best to find that trans with mounts as the turbo mounts are made nicer than the usa version non turbo mounts. the 2g trans does not have the same rear roll stop mounts and the axle lengths will not work out.

Couldn't you use the 2g tranny with a bracket to connect the rear mount to the k member mount? Or even replace the rear plate where the summit mount should be with the plate/mount from the w4a32 that is in the summit?

Lancerman, what axles do i use with what trans. i have a few options in hand. i have 2 stock summit awd trans, 1 externally damaged 98 2g trans, and 1 98 2g trans that has no info on (all trans being referenced are awd and auto). Where is the best place to get a rvr trans or can I make a mutant with my summit trans with 2g internals???? If so how do I make said mutant?

We are also looking for sports gear for a rvr....(brush guard). My buddy wants the offroad look with rally lights, a brush guard, and bike rack.

the stock summit trans is not turbo duty . I wouldnt waste time using one. I would spring for that tranny in the link. thats what you want. the summit awd a/t axles will work. you just need the rvr turbo trans. drops right in. I bought two from that place for 550 shipped for my swap.

I believe most the 98 internals would swap into the summit cases. but the 98 tq converter wont swap. the 98 used lockup feature so the converter is bigger both diameter and width. the converter and axles are spaced 1/2 inch towards passenger side. so that why axles are different lengths. passenger 1/2 shorter and driver side 1/2 longer. pretty sure the 98 case does not have the mounting holes needed to mount rear summit roll stop.

its a beautiful thing the rvr turbo trans drops right in. they are not expensive. actually quite the bargain. would save you and any future owner of car headaches down the road.

Being that you have had history with this company do you have any recommendations on how to do business with them?
thanks

They are out of stock anyway. What happen if I left the stock summit trans in the car and put a stock 7bolt turbo in?
I am not looking to make any more than the stock 205hp

Well, the stock tranny in your red summit never faltered the entire time Robert ran it till the RVR came in. And that is a T-28, more than the stock 205hp

at 200hp I would think the stock trans would work fine with blue wire mod. that sucks they have none in stock. they had twenty on the shelf when i purchase mine.

Want to be a gent and add a link to the blue wire mod. I am learning as I go on this. I need to get another engine before starting.
