My new turbo kit in the works. I picked up a t25 exhaust housing off ebay a few months ago for pretty cheap. less than a 100. the more I looked at it the more I liked how easy it would be to make the internally gated housing work. With my tig welder not working so great I was really just not in the mood to finish up the other turbo setup which requires some pretty technical welding to finish. so I switched gears to this internal gate setup. some initial pics. time to remove turbo for further fitments.

I love it. I really want to figure out a way to mate up a 7670 with a T3 IWG housing to the FP cast manifold. Do you think it's possible?

it can be done. there are pics in this thread of t3 3071 done in a similar way. the 7670 has a pretty large frame though. might be some fitment challenges to deal with. I may be cutting the vband off on this setup. then welding downpipe directly. this will allow for smoother radius turn. downside would be housing can long longer be swapped for 7163 with same footprint

progress as of today. took a while to get pipe crushed just right. I took my time. pretty much decided to cut the ex housing and weld directly to it the first bend. waiting on vband clamps that I ordered today. so likely wont be much progress till they get here.

takes big ones to cut housing on new turbo. did some waste gate porting and port matching. important to me to think ahead and make car as easy to service as possible. I really like how this is coming out. easy to get in and out of bay.

had to take a few days off. had my "summit build accident" installed a 6in cutting wheel on a 4in tool. wheel exploded on me.

exhaust building is nothing short of kicking my butt. mostly because I am not that great of a fabricator. my builds function very well and I can say I built it, in the end thats what matters to me. never used vbands on an exhaust before. the first one I welded on and found the flanges warped like crazy. struggled with making it seat for several hours. in the end guessed it wasnt worth the risk. so I cut that weld off and added more pipe before trying another flange. only that one warped as well. gonna proceed with the exhaust build and come back to figure out how to make it seal. turbo kit just needs a bracket made for wastegate. it still slides in and out without having to remove fans. so pretty happy with it. got an old muffler cut open for some custom re-packing. this will fit nicely in the cat position.

Creepin' me out with that laceration! Dagnabit that must of hurt.

Keep safe and keep doing what you are doing!

Maybe Tig is a must when welding those flanges because they are rather tempermental with excessive heat? Or you have to go really slow when using other methods? Nobody likes a bunch of start and stops when you just want to find a rhythm and keep going.

ouch! sorry about your injury.
i bet keeping those flanges straight is a pain. i imagine you tried clamping the two halves together as well while welding? could help a little but probably not enough.

you might also try a larger heatsink. if you had a thick flat chunk of steel (1/2-1" thick). Then after tacking the flange to the tube maybe you could clamp the flange face to the chunk of steel. its amazing how much heat a clamped on heatsink will remove, the flat surface will also help to keep things flat too.

i worked i a metal shop the last 10 years and we had lots of thick chunks of scrap like that you could ask around the local fab shops.

Yeah I feel extremely fortunate it wasnt any worse. half of the blade just missed my face. wake up call to be more careful. the housing is t25 inlet. finished the turbo kit up today. I could start it now open downpipe. but i think i will wait till the first muffler is in place.

getting nervous actually. a lot of work and no one has actually used this turbo on a dsm 4g63. got muffler sealed up. weighs a little over 6lbs. should be a quiet muffler for its size and weight. I think muffler manufactures fall short of how well mufflers could work. mostly because you never get to see whats comes on the inside. so they skimp on nice noise absorbing internals. gonna make a similar muffler for the space in front of tank. trying a side exit on the driver side first. hopefully it will be quiet enough to suit my needs. the original exhaust and turbo weighed 99lbs. the efr turbo assembly weighs about 8lbs less. hope to save another 30 on the exhaust setup.

and although I have spent a lot of time on this kit I simply cannot imagine being disappointed. to reassure myself I periodically look around the net for dyno results. here are some I found today. cobalt ss forum:

so jumping out of my skin now. turbo kit is installed. downpipe done. started engine with just centre muffler propped on a stool. not welded yet. was shocked at how well it works. very quiet. then added second muffler on the ground. stupid quiet is the best way to describe it. I am stoked now. side exit exhaust will be a reality.
