I have been serching craiglist for a couple weeks now. during which time I found five AWD cars for sale. ranging from 1200-3000. the best "should have grabbed that one" was 1200. but it was a 92. I decided to hold out for a 93 or later as I will be using 7 bolts and dont want to be limited to 93-94 blocks only. I will likely be paying too much as I just got to get my hands on one. lucky I am looking for an A/T cause I havent seen any stick ones yet.

I sold my 92 AWD 5 speed to Joggle on here a few years ago for $1700 I think. It was in pretty good shape but had an oil consumption problem. Honestly out of the 4 I've owned I believe they all did. I say if you can get your hands on a super clean one for 2k or less you didn't do too bad.

Knowing that you plan to build it, it a shame that you can't find one not running for dirt cheap though.

Personally my cap is $3,000 for awd 5speed. Less if auyo, and not even considering fwd. I havent found a good candidate close enough for the right price since April. To be fair, i only check search tempest every other week or so.

whats close enough? I bought my evo 4 from Utah. one way plant ticket 2300 miles. 56 (44 driving+12 cat naps) hours time to get home. these cars are rare. you may never find one if you arent willing to travel. and to make it even more difficult, the good canidates dissappear fast. like the first hour after listing in a big city it will be gone. I am willing to pay top dollar for a clean one. and long drive home is fun.

I am wanting to avoid rust. Most vans are not owned by enthusiasts, and are used during the winter. My favorite one i found was a mint blue awd auto. And the guy thought i was a scammer asking him to hold the car 3 days for me to fly out there. Thing sold within that day.

I do have one a 93 summit wagon that has some issues. I got it from Thom Casey for my motor. I have been playing around with what I want to do with it now that I have Rob's 92 Red summit wagon also. The 93 is auto and I really like the auto after owning Rob's 92. I am undecided what to do. No one has a clue what to think of these wagons. Last years shootout only have 3 summits show up from what we saw. I have only seen 6 awd wagons in my life. 1 at MOD, 1 on the road in Peoria, IL on my way to pick up my 92 colt, Thom's and 3 at shootout.

Yesterday I picked up a 95 summit, loaded, auto, ac with 90k for 800. The overdrive in the tranny is out. I also have a 92 summit bare bones 5spd. I am thinking of selling the 5spd.

I can't remember if I paid 2.6k or 2.8k but mine was in excellent shape, loaded minus disc brakes with like 116k original miles. The guy I bought it from took real good care of it (even though he did use it for auto X events), he had the SOHC head rebuilt right before I bought it. Plus try to find a 1996 AWD 5 speed Summit van, good luck with that, there weren't very many made in 96. I looked for 3 months for a worthy candidate for turbocharging before finding mine.

I also bought a 1995 AWD 5 speed summit in PA for like $800, it ended up having surface rust on one of the panels and the under carriage was rusted pretty good. Sold it to my brother who ran the crap out of it till it got hit in the front end and was junked.

You can find Auto/awd and auto/manual/FWD models pretty easy. The AWD models are hard to find in the South.

paid $620 for mine a few weeks ago... it runs and everything works... little bit of a wobble in the steering wheel at 70mph. rust will be a factor... behind the front wheel wells mostly the roll pan or whatever part of the unibody is rusted out and will need to be repaired but otherwise its solid and doesn't burn much oil. i have an intermittent check engine light that i haven't scanned yet but i changed all the fluids and have already driven it 1000 miles with little issues. looking to do mild performance and reliability enhancements if anyone has any tips... would love to bolt a turbo on it but thats waaayyy down the road, this thing will be my winter beater but even my beaters need to run nice and last.

Mine is the same color as the onr above. I did not but it to keep it though. My friend bought it years ago for $180. I gave him $1000 for it a few months ago. I daily drive it as it is my only vehicle besides my motorcycle. Once I buy my 4x4 here soon it will be back up for sale. It has 326,xxx miles on the original engine. It burns quite a bit of oil though. That is all that is wrong with it. I needed something bigger for my five dogs but, I truly need a 4x4 as I spend a lot of time in the mountains running and love four wheeling. I bought it because I needed a car and my friend needed the money. It has been great. I have taken it to Arkansas twice before when I was borrowing it and west over the rocky mountains to a resort town in western Colorado numerous times with my wife and dogs. If it had a low range transfer case I would keep it. I just need some ground clearance and something that can actually get me up the trails.
