Are you using the software off the site you posted? I have the hotsync cradle, a male plug, then soldered the rest together, just one 10k ohm 1/2 watt resistor, and one diode. I would get a reading every now and again, but it would be wrong, like 18.1 battery, 7900 rpms, but I'd get them just for a second. So you used that same schematic? Arrg.

And if that't the only cable that needs to be made, what's the deal with the schematic on the PDA site?

Can you give me specs on the anode/cathode and resistor you used. Maybe i don't have right ones.

Ok

I am using the software off the mmcd site.

The schematics I posted are a simplified version. I have now constructed and tested both cables and both work.

The resistor I use is a 10k Ohm 1 Watt 5% carbon film resistor (i see the one youre using is 1/2 a watt)

The diode im using is a IN914 Signal diode

I will take a pic of my cable tonight when I get home.

Mike

Mike
DUH! I assumed you were using that circuitry on a IBM PC style computer! :-? You're fully right, it WILL work perfectly on a palm! 8)

I initially constructed the laptop cable as I didnt have a palm, but it was too bulky tot ake around teh laptop so i bought a palm.

So BOTH the Laptop and Palm cables work for me!

Hey Guys,
Here is a pic of my cable (this is the laptop cable) the palm cable is the same but one of the pins is changed.

Make sure you get the right pins!!!

Well, mo fo...

I got my cable to work!! YEAH! My third try, I used a larger guage cable. Now it works. I also did my resistor and diode right to the pins like yours is. Now I just have to figure it out so I can tune my S-AFC II with it.

All this electronics crap may come in handy when I no longer just use it all as flashing lights, and over priced guages.

Thanks for your help Mike

No probs!

I cant believe people would actually pay $35+ usd for this!

It's so simple to make! (and thats coming from someone who hates dealing with electronics with a passion!)

I took a brief look at it. It seems to be constructed straight ahead, w/ all eventualities in mind. While it is more complicated to construct than those other cables, it will be fail safe IMO.

The other end just has three wires which you crimp terminals on and plug into your diagnostic port.

As for which is better, I have no idea. I've made my cable, it was quick and easy, it works and i'm happy!
